The Hummelstown Arts Festival Committee, Lower Dauphin School District, and the Hummelstown Area Historical Society are partnering with events in May, 2018 as a Celebration of Art in Hummelstown.
The Hummelstown Area Historical Society is staging a Retrospective Show featuring the artistic talents of the late Hummelstown native, Robert M. Nisley. His artwork covering a period of 60 years will be displayed at the Society’s History House at 32 West Main Street, Hummelstown PA. The Show is open on Sundays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Wednesdays during the month of May and the first week of June. Nisley painted scenes of the Hummelstown area, designed many posters for the Arts Festival, and sketched scenes as a soldier in World War II. There is no admission charge.
A second event being held at Lower Dauphin High School is the District Art Show which features the talent and creativity of artwork from the elementary schools, middle school, and high school. The Show is open from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, May 18 and from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, May 19, 2018. Refreshments and musical entertainment will also be part of this event. Admission is free.
Finally, the popular Hummelstown Arts Festival silent and live auction of painted chairs occurs on Saturday, May 19, 2018 in the back yard of the History House at 32 West Main Street, Hummelstown. The chairs are painted by local artists, dignitaries, clubs, and groups. The chairs will be on display in Bowser’s store front windows and at the Lower Dauphin School District Art Show. Beginning at 2:00 PM, entertainment and refreshments will be available. The silent auction concludes at 4:00 PM and followed by a live auction at 4:30 PM.
During the event, the winning submission for the 2018 Arts Festival poster will be announced. Proceeds from the auction are used to meet expenses of the
2018 Arts Festival and for funding the Robert Nisley Scholarships awarded to Lower Dauphin seniors. The Robert Nisley Retrospective Show in the History House will also be open on Saturday, May 19th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
